A strong and containing therapeutic relationship, where trust is secure, will be the foundation to psychological support.
A successful therapeutic relationship consists of three essential qualities: partnership of trust, care, and respect; agreement on therapeutic goals; and collaboration on the "work" of the treatment.
Janine McClelland
Registered Psychologist
I graduated with my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2006. I worked in mental health and addiction services with Alberta Health Services from 2006 to 2019. During this time, before I had my children, I also did some part-time private practice work consisting of couples counselling and EMDR. In 2019, my family and I moved to New Zealand. I initially worked as a clinical service leader for a not-for-profit mental health and addiction youth clinic before going into full-time private practice in 2021. The vast majority of this private practice work in New Zealand was trauma treatment with clients diagnosed with trauma-related disorders (i.e., PTSD). In July 2024, after five years of living and working in New Zealand, my family and I moved back to our home in Alberta and I set up Janine McClelland Consulting Inc. to continue my services back in my home town.
When I'm not working, I enjoy quality time with my family being active in the incredible outdoors. We live in such a beautiful area of Alberta with endless mountains to climb! I also enjoy travelling, camping, yoga, reading, cooking, baking, and, of course, our beloved furry family members.
